Established in 1972, Forelock’s Arabians owned by the Kuijf family is one of the largest and most successful Dutch Arabian horse farms based in the Green Heart of the Netherlands. Located in the town of Nieuwkoop, the Kuijf family maintains 10 hectare of grass land, 50 stables and indoor – and outdoor arena facilities. History began over 40 years ago with Forelock’s Arabians foundation mares Nesmejana (Arax x Nevidimka) and Nezabudka (Arax x Napersmitsa) both imported from Russia and bought by Mr. and Mrs. Adriaan Kuijf. Internationally well-known stallions such as Menes, Abakan and Kais were kept at the farm and bred many mares of which offspring persists and prospers worldwide today.

Three years ago the original founders handed the reins over to their eldest son Mr. Aad Kuijf and his partner Ms. Wendy Jane Delvalle. Mr. Kuijf has been involved in the national – and international Arabian horse breeding scene for most of his life. Ms. Delvalle an accomplished equestrian, show jumper as well as trainer and Arabian horse handler has been active for well over two decades. Throughout her career she earned numerous regional and national titles.
Team Kuijf & Delvalle made a selection in 2010 and kept thirteen of the farm’s most promising broodmares. The couple combines valuable expertise and genuine enthusiasm in taking breeding and showing Forelock’s Arabians’ gorgeous aristocrat lines to a higher level. For the past 10 years the farm bred over thirty Dutch National – and Reserve National Champions. The Champions stem from the foundation of their 3 lines L, Y and V all leading back to Arax.

Forelock’s Arabians L-line

Lanizjka (by Nizjni) was a well built mare and an extreme mover. Her two daughters La Brunette (by Almonito) and La Belle (by Abakan) are used as breeding mares today at the farm.
La Brunette, a former Dutch National – and Reserve National Champion, had a very type colt this year by Magic Magnifique (True Colours x Magic Mon Amour). She is again in foal to this grand black stallion and is expected to deliver extraordinary offspring in 2014.
La Belle is currently in foal to Bashir Al Shaqab (Marwan Al Shaqab x SWF Valencia). Her daughter Lunette (by Kais) was successfully shown as a filly and will start her career as a breeding mare next year. Forelock’s Arabians has high expectations as this exquisite filly shows the best of both lines.

Out of the many successful Forelock’s L-line Arabian horses, the most famous nowadays is Lyanka’s (Abakan x Lanizjka) grandson Designed for Life (Designed x Lianna) bred by the Jones family of Bychan Arabians in Wales and owned by Al Muawd stud. He earned the titles National – and International Champion in Europe and the Middle East in 2013.

Forelock’s Arabians Y-line

The Y line starts with Yakouta II (Podsnejnik x Nepokornaja by Arax). Yakima (Nizjni x Yakouta II) is her now 22 years old daughter and eldest broodmare at the farm. Yakima achieved the special WAHO Trophy in 2010 for her outstanding offspring. This line crossed well with Psytadel by whom she gave six fillies in a row. Yakima is currently in foal to Bashir Al Shaqab (Marwan Al Shaqab x SWF Valencia) expected to be delivered in 2014. Considering previously welcomed prizewinning foals, Forelock’s Arabians is excited to see what she does to these lines as it will be her last. Two of Yakima’s daughters are still kept at the farm, the successfully shown Forelock’s Yessy and Yta Donna ‘F’. The recently deceased daughter Yzy ‘F’ a once promising young broodmare gave Dutch Silver Junior Champion filly Forelock’s Yzabeau (by Makisa Adaggio) that is still at the farm and the type filly Yusty ‘F’ (by WH Justice) who accomplishes noteworthy achievements in the show ring for her owner Ajman Stud based in the United Arab Emirates. Her last filly Forelock’s Danat (by MPA Giovanni) was sold to Mr. Almudahka in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Yta Donna ‘F’ is also in foal to Bashir Al Shaqab (Marwan Al Shaqab x SWF Valencia). Yessy is in foal to the famous black stallion Magic Magnifique (True Colours x Magic Mon Amour).

Another young talented mare is Yody ‘F’ (by Kubinec). She leads through her mother to Yakouta II. Yody ‘F’ had three foals of which two became National Champion. Yoly (By Kais) was 2012 Dutch National Junior Champion Filly and her 2013 colt Shaheen (by Magic Magnifique) was also Dutch National Champion. Yody ‘F’ presents a promising future.

Forelock’s Arabians V-line

The V-Line traces back to Veranda by Naftalin who was bred at Tersk Stud, Russia. This line is successfully bred to Psytadel. Veronia (Abakan x Veranda) gave the beautiful Valentyna ‘F’ by Psytadel. Valentyna ‘F’ was sold to Dr Ghanem of al Hawajer stud in the United Arab Emirates after she made the top 5 in Las Vegas, the United States. She has been successfully shown in the Middle East.

Sisters of Valantyna ‘F’ that are still present at Forelock’s Arabians are Virginia ‘F’ (by Elton), Valeta ‘F’ (by Almonito) and Vekaisa ‘F’ (by Kais). Another daughter by Veranda is Valeria ‘F’ (by Valerio Ibn Eternity). She is an exotic mare who gave a lovely showy filly by MPA Giovanni. In 2012 Valeta ‘F’ gave Vantastica (by Psytadel). She was unbeatable and won National and International 4 championships. This year Veronique was born by Psytadel out of Vekaisa ‘F’. Veronique was shown twice and became Dutch National Champion and Gold medal Champion at the Tulip Cup International B show. At the European Foal Futurity Cup in Aachen she won a spectacular Silver medal for her new owner from Belgium.

Until now team Kuijf & Delvalle breed with stallions such as WH Justice, Psytadel and Magic Magnifique. A great opportunity was presented in the lease of the exceptional stallion Bashir Al Shaqab (Marwan Al Shaqab x SWF Valencia) owned by Al Shaqab, member of the Qatar foundation. This magnificent young stallion is used on eight of Forelock’s Arabians breeding mares. Team Kuijf & Delvalle is interested in using different bloodlines in addition to the Russian bloodline and decided to lease two mares in partnership. The straight Egyptian mare Theee Magic Capri (Thee Desperado x Nile Peace) and her daughter Coco Jia (by WH Justice) owned by Mr. Robert Peek & Ms. Marian van der Meulen of Linden Arabians. Both mares were bred to Bashir Al Shaqab (Marwan Al Shaqab x SWF Valencia).

Throughout the years many foreign visitors have found their way to Forelock’s Arabians. Conveniently located near Schiphol, Amsterdam International Airport, team Kuijf & Delvalle looks forward to welcoming many more and warmly invites interested parties to visit the impressive Forelock’s  Arabians collection.
